Collaborative supported the work of the Commission on No Child Left Behind in its efforts to make recommendations to Congress on how the law might be improved so that every child enjoys a high-quality education. Collaborative produced the Commission's final report, Beyond NCLB, through research, writing, editing and design. Beyond NCLB received the 2008 APEX Award for Publication Excellence in the category of One-of-a-Kind Custom-Published Publications. The APEX Awards are decided through an annual competition for writers, editors, publication staff, and business and nonprofit communicators. The Awards are based on excellence in graphic design, editorial content and overall communications effectiveness. Collaborative designed the book, The Impact of Early Art Experiences on Literacy Development, for the National Art Education Association with an eye toward increasing the functionality of the content for use by teachers in the classroom. Collaborative helped the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) develop Leading Learning Communities: What Principals Should Know and Be Able To Do, in 2001. This publication was recognized with an APEX Award for Publication Excellence and earned the National School Public Relations Association Publications and Electronic Media Contest Award for Distinguished Achievement. Collaborative worked with NAESP in 2008 to produce a revised second edition of this award-winning publication, which was recognized with a 2009 APEX Award for One-of-a-Kind Custom-Published Publications. Collaborative created Taking Responsibility: Using Public Engagement to Reform Our Public Schools for Public Education Network. This resource focuses on public engagement as the key element in sustainable school reform and on local education funds as key intermediaries in the engagement process. Taking Responsibility received an Award of Excellence for Distinguished Achievement in the 2005 National School Public Relations Association Publications and Electronic Media Contest.
Collaborative partnered with Public Education Network to produce a guidebook, Communities at Work: Strategic Interventions for Community Change, on the work of local education funds and accompanying resources for strategic interventions for community change. This book was honored with an Award of Excellence in 2002 by the National School Public Relations Association Publications and Electronic Media Contest.
